Attendance SOUTHIES Baseball (“SOUTHIES’) is a competitive club baseball team activity requiring participation of its players for practices, games, and tournaments. Missing scheduled team events not only hurts the development of the player, but the whole team. If a player misses practices, games or tournaments for unexcused reasons, it can limit playing time. Accordingly, while 100% attendance isn’t expected, we expect all players to commit to at least 2/3 of all SOUTHIES activities. Family is first. SOUTHIES understands a player may have to miss practices or games due to family functions such as weddings, reunions, graduations, or Postponing family vacations until after the season is strongly encouraged. SOUTHIES understands and supports that players may be involved in other sports (e.g. soccer, flag football, etc.) or activities (e.g. band, theater, etc.) that may create conflicts with practices, games, tournaments or other team activities. In the event this occurs it is essential that the player and/or player’s parents discuss these conflicts timely with the team’s head coach. While we encourage players to participate in Little League Baseball or other recreational leagues, players may not participate or sub-in for in any other club, travel, or select baseball program without express written permission from the SOUTHIES Board. The SOUTHIES Board may approve or deny requests to play with another club baseball team for any reason. Players who violate this policy are subject to be removed from their SOUTHIES team. Playing Time & Coaching SOUTHIES baseball is a developmental club baseball program, but equal playing time and defensive positions are not guaranteed. Playing time will be awarded to players at the sole discretion of the team’s manager. SOUTHIES coaches have the right to limit a player’s playing time for any reason, including lack of commitment to the team, missing practices & games, or due to unsportsmanlike conduct, poor attitude, focus, and effort. Managers and Coaches are selected by the SOUTHIES They shall manage teams as they see fit, subject to oversight by our Head of Baseball Operations and the SOUTHIES Baseball Board. Coaches are to follow the guidelines created by the SOUTHIES Baseball Board that includes playing time, scheduling of practices and games, and personal conduct. Failure to follow these guidelines could result in the manager or coach being removed from his duties and replaced by an assistant coach chosen by the SOUTHIES Baseball Board Behavior Policy Goal of this policy is to not only promote sportsmanship, but also encourage positive and effective communication between the SOUTHIES Board, coaches, players, umpires, parents, and Any board member, coach, player, umpire, parent, or spectator that demonstrates behavior that is detrimental to this program may be removed from the SOUTHIES Detrimental behavior includes, but is not limited to, physical and/or verbal abuse towards any participant, board member, coach, player, or umpire at any time. If the violator is a board member, coach, or player then the SOUTHIES Board will meet to discuss the violator’s possible disciplinary action. If the violator is a parent or spectator, and if the violator has been ejected from the event, they can possibly be expelled from the program and all future events at the sole discretion of the SOUTHIES Board. They also are not entitled to a hearing before the Board or an appeal of the Board’s Volunteerism While volunteerism isn’t required to participate in SOUTHIES, parents or legal guardians of all players are encouraged to support the SOUTHIES baseball program either through volunteering their time or helping with fundraising endeavors.
